Garden Chickpea Salad

Besides the new scenery, one of my favorite aspects of the changing seasons is the bounty of new fruits and vegetables lining grocery shelves.  After a few months of the same foods, it is simply a revitalizing change to swap out last season's ingredients to the freshest available harvest.
With the warmer, breezy spring weather finally pushing away the cold, I am starting to crave healthy, clean salads once again.  The crispness of the raw ingredients feel so light and refreshing after a winter-long feast of hearty meals consisting of warm, thick stews and decadent, sweet desserts.  My desires for those heavy dishes seem to be melting away with the snow, and I am eager to satisfy my taste buds with lighter nourishing ingredients.

Why Should We Care?

Be sure to check out my Flickr
It is no secret that the preservation of our environment often faces irrefutable danger.  Pollution, negligence, and a lack of respect all harm our world's natural inhabitants.  Although new efforts and organizations are continuously joining the "green" movement to protect the natural world, there are still many people who ignore the damages or refuse to change their destructive ways.  Since our current lives are not in as much detrimental jeopardy as the future human, plant, and animals who will one day exist on this earth, some may feel that environmental issues are not as vital as other problems that we currently face.

So if we are still capable of breathing air, drinking water, growing foods straight from the earth, freely using natural resources to build, and visiting breathtaking scenic spots on relaxing vacations, why should we care?

Remember When?

Remember when life was so much easier?  What about when we had few responsibilities other than finishing homework and feeding the dog?  Or when the entire afternoon could be spent jumping from swings and zooming down slides?  Sigh, oh how lovely it would be to live like a kid again...

Valentine's Day - It's Just a Hippie Holiday

Ahhh, Valentine's Day - it's the day that makes some flutter their eyes and pucker their lips to sounds of sweet compliments and proclamations of deepest adoration.  It's also the day where others pay homage to Bridget Jones (pre-Darcy, of course) by basking on their couch, robed in their cushy pajamas and accompanied only by a box of chocolate, a bottle of cheap wine, or both.  Although intended to connect us in love, Valentine's Day inadvertently divides us even further apart into a battle between hungry, yet proud singles and slightly obsessed couples in love.  Both teams bicker passionately about their support for or lack of the holiday in a campaign rivaling the election in both fervor and memes.  Even so, there is one commonality that unites us all on this holiday, making us no different from the other side - we are all just a bunch of hippies on Valentine's Day.

Restarting Your Resolutions

With January 31st marking the end of this week, we can officially say that the end of the beginning of the year is fast approaching.  An entire month of 2016 has already passed by, and many of us may be evaluating our progress on those New Year goals we enthusiastically made at the stroke of midnight (or probably the next day).

Some of you may be proud of the positive changes that you've implemented this month, while others may be regretting (or laughing at or intentionally forgetting) the high expectations that now seem impossible to achieve.  To those of you happy with and proud of your accomplishments so far, continue forward on your journey.  All the time, energy, and will power that you are investing into your hard work is rewarding you with a better version of yourself.  To those that have strayed from their goals, do not be discouraged and definitely do not give up.  You still have a long journey ahead of you and plenty of opportunities to try again.

Nature's Wisdom: Have Tough Skin

Aggressive enemies like blustery wind, menacing lightning, and hammering rain might intimidate even the bravest, burliest soldier to run off and hide.  But a tree is not merely a soldier.  A tree is a resilient warrior.

The Secret to Success

Spoiler alert: I have just discovered the most influential factor of success!

Feel free to check out my other illustrations here
Stop working hard.  Give up your extreme dedication.  Don't waste any more time practicing and perfecting your skills.  All of this effort is trumped by the incredible power that can be only cast out by the magical forces of the universe.  I have not yet figured out how to tap into this power, and it must be for this reason that I have not yet successfully published my children's books.  It is for this reason that you are probably sitting here and reading this article instead of being discovered.
